Small Shifts, Big Change: Mastering Micro Transitions for Daily Ease

Play the Pause: Finding Flow in the Little Shifts:

In my work with Visible Transitions , I study what happens in the space between stimulus and response.

Micro transitions are one of the most overlooked regulatory opportunities in relational professions.

The Nervous System Between the Moments

• We prepare for big transitions

• train for crisis

• plan curriculum

• track outcomes

But the nervous system lives in the in-between.

What Is a Micro Transition?

A micro transition is the brief shift between:

• One student and the next

• One patient and the next

• Email and in-person interaction

• Documentation and relational presence

• Parking lot and classroom

These shifts may last seconds.

Neurologically, they are cumulative.

The Cost of Unclosed loops

Without pausing in curiosity:

• Stress activation stacks (resistance)

• Emotional residue carries forward

• Executive function narrows

• Window of tolerance shrinks

Burnout often emerges from accumulation ~ not intensity.

Transition Awareness

Take a moment and think about the last transition you moved through today.

Maybe it was from one client to the next.

From email to conversation.

From home to work

Pause.

Notice what you’re still carrying.
